A coalition of land trusts and government agencies have joined together to conserve more than 18,000 acres of land within this critical estuary that contains more than 20% of Maine’s tidal marshes.
Phippsburg Land Trust’s Sprague Pond Preserve includes 114 acres surrounding a nearly 10-acre spring-fed pond. Hikers can explore the pond’s shoreline and nearby forests, enjoying scenic views and excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.
Located in the town of Bath, this 96-acre Kennebec Estuary Land Trust Preserve features 3.5 miles of family-friendly hiking trails near the shores of the Kennebec River. Once an important trading spot for native Abenaki Indians, Thorne Head offers commanding views of the area and excellent wildlife viewing opportunities, just minutes from downtown Bath.
